Ocd Drugs - all things You Need to Know

There are many types of Ocd drugs used to treat the condition, each with their own dissimilar pros and cons. If your own case of Ocd requires medicated treatment, then your doctor will discuss with you the best choice for your own single case.

But if you'd like to know a bit about each of the options that might be presented to you, here's a overview of them in turn.

First up, we have Ssris, or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. These are anti-depressants and are most often used to treat moderate to severe bouts of depression. But they are also used to treat many forms of anxiety disorder, which makes them a good candidate for an Ocd drug.

Some of the most coarse Ssris, and ones that your doctor may mention to you, are:

citalopram (Celexa) dapoxetine escitalopram (Lexapro) fluoxetine (Prozac) fluvoxamine (Luvox) paroxetine (Paxil) sertraline (Zoloft) zimelidine (Zelmi)

The second type of Ocd drug your doctor is likely to discuss with you are Benzodiazepines, or "benzos." These are sedatives and work by slowing down the central nervous system. They are used to treat all forms of anxiety disorder, and are also often used in conjunction with Ssris during the first few weeks to sell out any side-effects the Ssris may be causing.

Unlike Ssris, this family of drugs is addictive in nature, and so therefore cannot be taken over extended periods of time. That makes them good a choice in the short-term, for periods of sudden and greatest bouts of anxiety and Ocd, but they cannot be taken for periods of time exceeding a few weeks.
